Hi {{ first_name | Friend }},
Do you want readers to stay up late turning pages?
Then you need to understand this: page-turning plots have almost nothing to do with plot points, acts, or story structures.
They’re not about character.
Forget about that. Great plots do something else entirely.
They transport us into situations that trigger two powerful attention systems hardwired into the human brain. When those systems are activated, readers can’t look away.
The better we learn to trigger these systems, the more page-turning our stories will be.
What are these systems?
Discover them in my latest post.
Have a great week,
John D. Brown
Award-winning author of Gun Runner and The Drovers series
P.S. I’ve been invited to make two presentations on Saturday, February 14th at this year’s Life, The Universe & Everything—Utah’s biggest science fiction and fantasy convention for writers. If you’re going to be there, please come up and say hello.
P.P.S. If this email addressed you as “Friend”, that’s because I don’t have your first name. I’d much rather call you by your first name. Hit reply, and let me know.
